Trend Report SS2018: Pastel Party

If you’d had to pick the ultimate Easter brunch look this trend offers you all the inspiration you might need. Besides, nothing says ‘spring’ like a pastel perfect ensemble. Just ask Bottega Veneta, Dries van Noten and Marni, to name just a few. From baby blue and peach to lavender and lemon; your favorite sorbet flavour might just make the ultimate on trend look. Whether fringe (Bottega Veneta) or fur (Burberry), shiny (Tom Ford) or sheer (Carolina Herrera) this flirty and feminine look matches any style. Yet we’re mostly crushing the pink + yellow Céline, a color combination we’re probably going to see a lottt this summer. Are you feeling the soft color palette? And if so, which pastel party will you be attending?

First View Paris Womenswear FW2012: Pastel Beauty

As Suzy Menkes questions in the NY Times: ‘Is it inevitable in a time of economic depression that fashion takes a backward look at similar moments in past? So much has changed that it is a designer’s tough task to make references relevant.’

Historic Dior, the New Look, hit the runway. Faultless collections, as icons of couture craftsmanship in impeccable tailoring, express lightness in a tender palette of soft powder-pinks. The focus is on the waist and skirts are full or flared and over-the-knee, in chiffons, silks and layers of tulle. Less exquisite and full-blown as in the 40s, making place for a contemporary, stripped-down urban sense of luxury and soft modernity, yet still ultimately recognizable.

Roland Mouret shows smart sculpted peplum silhouettes with a lady like elegance, Nina Ricci’s designer Peter Copping did find the right twist to turn the historic into the contemporary. Barbara Bui entered a more free-flowing craft aspect in a skin shaded sensual silhouette, where Bill Gaytten stays closest to the Dior heritage without obviously taking a 21st century turn.

Trends ss2010: pastel perfection

When it comes to color,  next season will be very tame. There’s the nude trend and there will be lots of black & white. Yet there’s a third trend that we need to discuss colorwise: pastels.

The trend fits perfectly with the overall vibe we’re getting for spring/summer, in which everything seems very romantic and feminine. Yellow, purple, blue, pink, green, orange: all these colors came in a pastel version in any kind of material.

When comparing all collections we can consider Donatella Versace as the queen of the pastels. Her Barbiedoll models wore tight sexy pastel outfits. She even had a few printed pastels. The color in this case added to the Barbie doll feeling.

Michael Kors used some elegant blue, purple and green pastels for his feminine outfits. Other brands that made the pastel look work are Burberry, Matthew Williamson, Tommy Hilfiger, Mila Schon, Blumarine and of course our very own Viktor & Rolf. V&R’s multiple layered designs mainly were a combination of black and pastels.

If you want to go for that summery, romantic and feminine touch, add a little pastel.

Sies Marjan New York Catwalk Fashion Show

Already famous for his color schemes Sies Marjan-designer Sander Lak came up with yet another beautifully colored collection. He sent out fluid silk separates and chunky (croc) leather co-ords, slip dresses, pajama inspired sets and trench coats in a selection of jewel tones. A yellow bow tie jumpsuit paired with a pastel yellow trench coat, elegant sandals and chunky gold earrings simply looked like perfection. Big cross body bags looked a bit off. Asymmetry is a big theme for the new season and Sander knows just how to work with that. A swarm of rainbow confetti exploded during the finale, reminding us of what a celebration fashion should be.

Silvian Heach Catwalk Fashion Show AFW Studio 2019

A life band awaited us at Silvian Heach tonight. The four girls from the band Luminize, who appeared in The Voice of Holland, were set at the end of the runway, dressed in signature pieces from the new collection. A collection that turned out to be casual and sporty, effortless and comfy. Ruffled skirts and plain tees, white jeans and slogan T-shirts, cropped bomber jackets and oversized hoodies, all in black and white. Then it was time for prints and color. Floral printed dresses, polka dot co-ords and suits with retro prints. A silk printed robe-inspired suit looked extremely elegant. Then a denim chapter enrolled. A pinafore dress, lots of jeans and blouses and a patchwork denim shirt had that easy going feeling about them. The show ended girly and sweet with a series of pastel colored looks. A striped midi dress with a giant ruffled collar. A fuchsia sweater paired with a purple skirt. A lilac maxi dress and last but not least a denim jacket covered in colored sequins worn with a shiny, matching pair of sequin short. Good vibes, nice tunes and an impressive line-up of fresh Heach clothing. Another vibrant show by the Italian label.

Marlou Breuls x Spongebob catwalk fashion show AFW Studio 2019

Spongebob’s pineapple (life-size) awaited us at the Compagnietheater (the new location for this edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week) today. It was the backdrop for Marlou Breuls (who founded her label in 2016)couture collection presentation in which she brought an ode to Spongebob (the Nickelodeon serie which is celebrating it’s 20th birthday this year). She called it ‘The Icon Collection’, a selection of just 8 statement couture pieces. All colorful pieces with a 3D silhouette. From a Turquoise ‘mermaid’like dress with holes in it to a A-line shaped pastel yellow ‘sponge’ dress. The finale dress was a true showstopper, a metallic punch colored wedding gown with plastic bubbles (or pearls if you will) attached to it. We couldn’t have wished for a more joyful start of this edition of AFW Studio.
