Nothing says chic like a good cape. It speaks of style, status and a kind of surprise effect to it. And you can skip the Harry Potter or Medieval references right away; cape are the coolest thing again. Just look at the list of brands that revived this fashion piece. Givenchy, Saint Laurent and Missoni al proved to be supporters of the look. Thinking of joining in on the fun? Know that two roads lead to Cape Town. Either go with stiff, classic and powerful (Christophe Lemaire, Givenchy, Loewe, Nina Ricci) or opt for cosy, comfy and soft (Missoni, Isabel Marant, Erdem). For a walk in the park on a perfect autumn day. Keep it cool. Cape it!

More is more, the bigger the better, go big or go home; this trend is for everyone who either can’t decide what to wear or can’t stand the winter cold. It’s time to layer up, tuck in and wrap up. Just click through our gallery and see how the stylists backstage at Balenciage, Calvin Klein and Marni worked their layering magic. Remember the Joey from friend meme that was all over the internet right after the Balenciaga show? Well, he’s the ultimate hero for this trend. Sure you can wear a skirt with a shirt, a vest, a hoodie, a wind jacket and an oversized coat. The cold won’t get to you and if you spontaneously decide to go out you’ll at least have some clothing options. No need to show off your figure/silhouette, just let your sense of style breathe through the layers and the colors.

So remember we discussed color codes last week? We spoke of how orange and blue are popping up everywhere. And how orange and pink hues form the ultimate summer palette. Well, we’ve got another color combo for you. Denim blue and butter/corn yellow seem to work pretty amazing together as well. Just click through this streetswear gallery and you’ll see how good of a team they form. Think about it? An all denim look with just a hint of yellow (in the form of a hat, a canvas bag or some sneaker laces)? Not a bad idea right? Feeling blue? Add a splash of yellow and don’t let it get to you!

Trend Report SS2018: All Out

What might be ‘all out’ for one person could be pretty basic to another. Fact is everyone is putting their best foot forward when in comes to streetstyle during the couture shows. And so we spotted countless mindblowing, jaw dropping outfits on the streets of Paris. Some perhaps a bit too glam, but all floor sweeping and head turning. All out in something completely crystal embroidered, fully sequined, decorated by ruffles and layers, off shoulder, with a high slit, in Valentino red or bright yellow. All eyes on you which ever room you step in.

Trend Report SS2018: Prairie dresses

A puffy shoulder, a rounded collar with a few stodgy little buttons, proper sleeves and a neat length. They might seem a little dowdy at first sight, but fact is these throwback dresses are the hottest summer trend. Dresses (or even long skirts and loose blouses) with a fifties kind of feeling that get a modern touch by the bags, belts, sunnies and shoes worn with them. Perfect for just about any occasion; from dinners at your in laws to date nights. For the latter: just cinch your waist a bit, unbutton here and there, wear your hair down and choose the appropriate heel length. Even a dorky prairie dress can make you look extremely sexy.

Trend Report SS2018: It’s all in the details

An encrypted necklace (Balenciaga), a logo Swarovski belt (Gucci), a branded zipper (Marc Jacobs), a logo printed on a pair of neon socks, a print that when seen from up close turned out to be the letters of the brand. Whoever sat closest to the catwalk could spot the most logomania items. Details the largest fashion houses used to put some extra focus on their names. A simple and smart trick to brand your business and increase sells (showing off the labels your wearing wasn’t this hot since the nineties). Anyone who loves a little extra detail to an outfit could also love the clash/mix of fabric textures (as seen at MaxMara, McQueen, Calvin Klein). The perfection of certain zippers (Alexander Wang), buttons (MaxMara) and cuffs (Louis Vuitton). As well as the cutest, most detailed accessories, like a lamp handbag at Dolce & Gabbana and the bright colored pop jewelry at Versace. Look closely, pay attention and you’ll discover there are so much more layers to a collection than meets the eye.

Last year it seemed everyone was into matching green and pink as the ultimate color combination of 2017. This year color codes have been redefined and so some new combinations have been presented. So how about pairing orange and blue as seen at Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs and Acne? Purple and yellow perhaps as Carolina Herrera made a gorgeous color statement. And if anything says high summer it is the match of yellow, light pink and red shades (Dries van Noten, Sies Marjan, Etro). Like wearing the ultimate summer sunset on your outfit. All eyes on you any room you enter. Especially vibrant when combined with cognac brown leather shades and some gold jewelry.

Paris menswear showed some super relaxed styles for SS2019. Loose pants, unbuttoned shirts, suits worn over bare chests, a hand in the pockets kind of appeal. Looks that breathe careless summer vibes. With pastel shades and an overdose of orange making up for a mellow SS palette. Guys don’t even have to worry about bringing a bag or backpack, if it’s up to Lanvin, Junya Watanabe and Louis Vuitton they’ll be carrying their belonging on their body in fashion’s latest wearable luggage (or one of the many vests with multiple pockets – another trend – we saw). Sportswear is still widely represented, but we’re slowly moving onto styles that are more relaxed, more elegant even. In other news: logomania (Fendi’s current main focus), cross body fanny packs, kimono style jackets and cowboy boots are hot for summer as well. Check out our trend galleries below to discover the styles for Spring Summer 2019 as presented in Paris.

Relaxed and revealing ; suits worn with nothing underneath them at Acne, Armani, Dries van Noten

No bags needed. Wearable luggage at Lanvin, Watanabe and Louis Vuitton

Say goodbye to your skinny jeans; relaxed, loose, billowing trousers are the current trend. Wide leg pants at Lanvin, Louis Vuitton and Issey Miyake

An ultimate chic summer shade; head to toe orange at Hermes, Dries van Noten, Kenzo, Acne and MSGM

Trend Report SS2018: Effortless & Eclectic

Leopard has almost become a neutral and mixing prints is getting more casual by the day. And so this season’s most eclectic looks don’t even seem that extraordinary. They’re out there for sure, but they have a certain effortless to them. Like you’d want to wear florals, checks and animals prints in the brightest colors all together any regular business day. Like a veggies printed dress, a flower embroidered jacket, flower shaped sunnies and green glitter socks (Dolce  & Gabbana) make up for the perfect grocery shopping attire. Like an oversized kimono over a Manga printed dress combined with the frizziest coupe (Vivienne Westwood) work perfectly for a dinner date. No holding back; it’s prints and colors in the mix! Eclectic and easy.

Trend Report SS2018: Bits ‘n Pieces

Tattered, fringed, cut out, destroyed and deconstructed; this summer’s dress code requires outfits made out of bits and pieces. Like Ann Demeulemeester’s trenchcoat with midriff and shoulder baring parts (worn with half a hat!). Or Helmut Lang’s collection filled with asymmetrical cut ‘n paste styles. And then we have Margiela who created several types of garments out of cut out coats and pieces of decorative fur. Especially lingerie/swimwear looks seemed to exist of leftover fabrics. To keep everything together as one outfit the designer’s go to shade was black. Fringed black fabrics with a touch of tattered; are you in?
