Valentino Catwalk Fashion Show Paris Womenswear SS2015

In a color palette of rich shades ranging from navy blue to tiered into a series of pastel attires Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli sent out the chicest Valentino pieces for upcoming season. They used to most delicate materials to create their dreamy designs. Knitwear and lace, embroidered, graphically printed and hand painted every look breathed delicateness. Perhaps the collection felt a little less conservative than previous seasons, allowing asymmetric sleeves, cutouts, low cleavages, bare bellies, gladiator sandals and sunglasses to be part of the show. Yet still lots of blouses were fully buttoned, skirts reached over the knee, countless floor sweeping gowns were introduced and the models long hair was soberly parted and worn backwards, sticking to the fashion house’s signature of elegance. A dreamy collection with an extra youthful & tun twist.

Chanel Catwalk Fashion Show Paris Womenswear SS2015

The streets of Paris formed the backdrop of Chanel’s extravagant fashion show this morning. No, Karl didn’t present his designs outside, he build his own Boulevard Chanel No.5 inside the Grand Palais. And that boulevard turned out to be a perfect fit with the streetwise clothing the designer presented. Some of his favourite stars and it models of the moment like Edie Campbell, Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne and even Gisele (no last name needed) made their appearance strutting Karl’s optimistic collection. It involved full on tweed suits (for summer!), bright floral printed coats and matching boots, party dresses with metallic details, pinstripe ensembles and a wide range of white Victorian blouses. Socks were golden, as were sandals and belts. From punk rock to Saint Tropez chic; there were enough style variations to fashionably get you through any type of occasion. To stress the liberate feeling of the collection the finale involved a protest, led by Cara Delevingne holding a megaphone. Followed by all models carrying sings like ‘Tweed is better than tweet’, ‘Be your own stylist’ and ‘History is her story.’ Quotes not by far as strong as Karl’s own oneliners, but they added to the cheerful vibe of the show.

Saint Laurent Paris Catwalk Fashion Show Paris Womenswear SS2015

A lot of cleavage, skirts high up and “Un, deux, trois, coucher avec toi” through the speakers; Saint Laurent was one raunchy fashion spectacle. Yet with the right amount of fashion and coolness to attract youngsters all around the globe. Looks had a careless, mismatched appeal. Army jackets, biker jackets, fur coats and velvet suit jackets being tossed on just about any skimpy party look. Same goes for the hats, turbans, flowers and scarfs in contrasting color palettes, adding to the nonchalance yet eclectic vibe of the show. A vibe that somehow made the classic YSL turn into the hottest hipster brand in town a few seasons ago, although Slimane introduced a bit more color and print for SS2015. A seventies, L.A. kind of vibe that is so very in fashion nowadays and will make women line up for those leather skirts, floral dresses and the lowest tanktops.

Avelon Catwalk Fashion Show Paris Womenswear SS2015

Dutch fashion brand Avelon isn’t a complete newcomer anymore. So after four start up years the label of designer Erik Frenken had reached a certain turning point. It was time for the next step, a fashion show, in Paris! At the Dutch embassy (seen before in the movie Les Intouchables) Frenken presented his summer collection. If denim and T-shirts used to be the label’s style before, this time it was a full on collection including skirts, trenchcoats, sweaters and evening dresses. All oversize and all given the label’s coolness and edgy, yet wearable touch. Heavy reptile leather played a big part and popped up on a pair of light silver pants, a red structured T-shirt top as well as on a black strapless evening dress. But it wasn’t all that heavy; sheer, fringed, sliced and pleated fabrics were introduced along the way too. Eye catching tribal inspired necklaces got the label’s signature copper finishing as the brand’s blue and black combination could be spotted on several designs (a sleeveless tuxedo and a pleated evening dress) too. It was a well balanced collection with just the right amount of tribe-references and modernity. Proof that Frenken was right to take his brand to another level. On a show schedule in between Céline and Saint Laurent, where it clearly has a place.

Stella McCartney Catwalk Fashion Show Paris Womenswear SS2015

Like no other Stella McCartney is able to design clothes women really want to wear. And not just because they look so good, but because they’re wearable. Cause even now that wearability is high up on any designer’s agenda, not all designer clothes are that easily to wear in daily life. Most of Stella’s designs for summer 2015 are, although we don’t think we’ll be biking through Amsterdam in one of her floor sweeping, flapper, flared designs. Her unicolored, feminine designs seemed suitable for a large group of women, from almost any size or age. The roomy pants looked chic, the long knitted tops worn over knitted skirts appeared elegant and the ruffle/flapper details on the dresses made up for a feminine kind of playfulness. Bomber collars, sweater details, trench inspired epaulets, wrap skirts, large buckles, the chunkiest necklaces and cut-outs added to the modern character of the collection. Some models in checked numbers seemed to have just been lifted out of bed. This is comfort dressing with a twist.

Givenchy Catwalk Fashion Show Paris Womenswear SS2015

On Sunday Givenchy felt dark, almost Gothic-like, yet was absolutely sexy. “In the beginning, when I started, it was much more tough and sexy. I feel like women today tell me that’s what’s missing from the market”, Riccardo Tisci stated to Style.com. In a palette of black and whites with only a touch of pink powder and brown Tisci’s tight fitting creations followed up on each other. Designs made out of lace and leather were figure hugging and the cleavage sure played a big part. As did the legs popping up from underneath leather shorts, skater skirts, gladiator dresses and knee high lace up boots. In fact there was a lot of lace up going on, as top stitching and studs were the clothes’ extra details. Belts accentuated the models’ waists as chokers added up to the Gothic vibe of the show. It was a show you wouldn’t necessarily describe as the ultimate family outing. Yet that didn’t stop Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and their toddler from attending. In matching sheer black designs Kim and baby North watched the models (incl. sister Kendall Jenner) strut the dark and sensual designs. Kim poker faced, North nearly crying. Oh what a blast!

Clare Waight Keller went down the hippie / boho route for spring. Yet she did take a less convenient path. Yes there was lace, suede and denim. Indeed she came up with airy maxi dresses, printed tunics and a whole range of gladiator sandals. But still she managed to give her looks a refreshing kind of chicness. The kind of elegance that would make the navy pocket skirts and matching blouse as well as the white lace jacket and shorts suitable for work too. Although we must admit most designs would look their best on and around the beach somewhere. Most of them being the careless cool pieces you’d throw on after a dip in the ocean. Just to go on and head to a casual lunch, a cosy dinner or a long night of dancing. Especially the floor sweeping dresses (hanging from small spaghetti straps) had resort written all over them. As far as that one XL denim washed jogging attire, we’re not sure where to place it, but easy and relaxed must be the key words to this collection.

Céline Catwalk Fashion Show Paris Womenswear SS2015

Her ever so impeccably cool Céline designs got a little twist this time around. “In a way, I was open to everything—no preconceived ideas, very little of me saying no”, designer Phoebe Philo told Style.com. This translated into flapper dresses with fringy/fluffy bottoms, extra pockets, belts, topstitching and buttons on the jackets and the introduction of several colourful floral prints. Most designs were still clean cut and sober, but they had a little extra. Cut-outs on elbows, waistlines and chests looked elegant. As did the subtle accessories like necklaces and belts. Philo felt like experimenting a bit, but wasn’t ready to let go of her immensely popular clean chic signature. As a result the collection was a mix of two styles. Perhaps Philo could have said no a few extra times, but we sure appreciate the fresh new side of Céline.
