Trend Report SS2018: The hots for polka dots

We could see Megan Markle or Kate Middleton rock any of these designs in the near future. Given that these summer dresses are a great fit for a summer tea party with the (royal) family. Knee length and chest covered, black and white; very British, very modest. Quite the classic tea dress attire, but as for SS2018 very on trend as well. Marc Jacobs crazy spike hairdo aside this trend translates perfectly into any modern day woman’s wardrobe. A colored pump to match and it’s tea time (to party)!

Trend Report SS2018: Dark Denim

So you’re over the shock that denim on denim is completely acceptable again? Then let’s take it just a little bit further. Dark denim suits are a thing guys. Love it or hate it, but when designers like Tom Ford, Max Mara and Calvin Klein all have the same idea for the exact same season it sure is a trend. Now you just need to decide whether you wanna go sexy (like Tom Ford), tough combined with red leather (like Calvin Klein and Max Mara) or add just the right amount of romance in the shape of white linings and elbow cut outs (as seen at McQueen). Four runway creations that make a denim jacket on a pair of denim jeans seem like such a basic look. Are you ready?!

Want to add a little of drama to your outfit? Opt for some asymetrical necklines. It just breathes sexiness and seductiveness and can stress just the right parts of your upper body. Haider Ackermann and Prabal Gurung showed how light shades like white and yellow can create the ultimate asymmetry on a female body. While Calvin Klein and Isabel Marant proved those lines work well in black and at nighttime too. A trend that says summertime as well as partytime. Now let’s get ready to create some asymmetrical tanlines to match!

Trend Report SS2018: Ravishing & Ruching

If a dress should be anything this summer it would be ruching. Tight, body hugging and ruching that is. Making both the silhouette and fabric look even more interesting. Dolce & Gabbana, Tom Ford and Peter Pilotto showed their ruching designs in the prettiest pastel shades. Sorbet sweet and extremely feminine. Nice little side note: you can eat that extra plate that might make your dress wrinkle even more and no one will notice. No need to iron and not (even) suitable for ironing either. Just look ravishing while ruching along.

Trend Report SS2018: Print Mix

Mixing prints; it might be one of the loudest summer trends of 2018 and we’re obsessed. Cause basically you can’t go wrong with this one. Match your florals with some polka dots (Mary Katrantzou), veggies (Dolce & Gabbana) or checks (Marni). Pair graphic with exotic and don’t even mind the color code of your fit. Flash it, clash it and layer up like there’s no tomorrow. No rules, just go and be the ultimate prin(t/ces)s charming you can be.

Trend Report SS2018: Lavish in lavender

Is it a brunette thing? We’re not a hundred percent sure. Yet given by the looks of our catwalk images lavender might just be a brunette only trend. At least the pastel shade looks ravishing on each and everyone of those models, from Bottega Veneta to Erdem. Not one to wear tons of color? You might want to skip this trend. Cause when it comes to this shade there’s no holding back. You need to lavish in lavender; we’re talking head to toe looks. Skirts & sweaters (Michael Kors), sheer maxi dresses (Missoni) and full on colored suits (Victoria Beckham). Works perfectly against a sunny holiday backdrop and it might just make a rainy summer day a whole lot less gloomy.

AMSTERDAM FASHIONWEEK SS18

Dutch pride in the South of France this week. Designers Rushemy Botter (32) and Lisi Herrebrugh (28) have won the biggest price in menswear fashion in Hyères this week. Their colorful collection filled with streetstyle elements and fishing details ‘Fish or Fight’ (check out the backstage images we shot during AFW) won the first price at the fashion and photography festival in the South of France. A money price of fifteen thousand Euro, a capsule collection collaboration worth of 10.000 with Petit Bateau and access to Premiere Vision, one of the biggest fabric fairs. It’s a price once (in 1993) won by Dutch duo Viktor & Rolf, which set of their career internationally. Besides fashion Fish or Fight talks of sustainability and environmental issues, fishing nets and plastic inflatables worn as headpieces being a direct reference to pollution. The Fish or Fight collection, which forms the ultimate mix of formal and casual wear as it shows deconstructed suits, zipped up jackets and (multiple) caps with a huge amount of cool, has already won more prices (the Ann Demeulenmeester Award, the Flanders DC Award, the Dries van Noten Award, the Belmodo Award, the Knack Weekend Award and was voted ‘Most Promising Graduate’ at the Belgian Fashion Awards). Besides, there is still a chance Rushemy and Botter, who run their workspace in Antwerp, win the LVMH Price 2018 of 300.000 euro on the 6th of June. So high hopes for this Dutch duo, that is definitely on everyone’s radar right now.

Mattijs van Bergen is Osman’s new Head of Design

Ten years after he launched his own fashion brand Mattijs van Bergen is taking a new step in his career path. As of the first of May the talented Dutch designer is appointed as Head of Design at Osman in London. The start of this new adventure means the end for his fashion brand MATTIJS, which was popular by many Dutch fashion lovers.

With his signature style of colourful designs, layering, pleated and ruching details Mattijs knows many success stories over the years. He won a Dutch Fashion Award in 2012 and collaborated with brands like United Nude and Aaiko. He designed a collection of bridal wear and came up with an all black and white collection for the Nederlands fotomuseum. Two years ago he launched a sustainable fashion label named Matter. Mattijs had a small but solid fan base, which included none other than Queen Maxima, who wore six of his designs to official occasions.

It was a challenging decade nonetheless. As is the case for many, financially it can be tough for young Dutch designers. Yet after going bankrupt in 2014 Mattijs was able to make a comeback as he put more focus onto capsule collections and design collaborations. He designed business collections for the W hotel and De Efteling in previous years.

So after graduating for his master degree at Central Saint Martins College ten years ago Mattijs is now back in London. The Osman office at 32 Percy Street will be his daily workspace from now on. Osman is a ready to wear label known for it’s focus on feminine fits, soft fabrics, vivid colors, elegant silhouettes and bold styles. An absolute match with Mattijs his design aesthetic if you ask us.

The Dutch designer is excited and looking forward to creating large and beautiful collections together with the talented and passionate international design team. We thank him for ten years of beautiful designs and the many times we were able to work together. We will miss his contribution to Dutch fashion, but we will keep following his adventure. May many more women all around the world be wearing his designs with pride and passion in the years to come.

The best of luck and love to you Mattijs.

Round shoulders, square necklines; we’re talking geometric shapes this season! Show off those collar bones (as well as your latest choker or pendant) while having your chest gracefully covered. Anything boxy or squared might not sound the most feminine at first, yet Dior, Hermes and Carolina Herrera all proved there’s nothing quite more sexy than this. Dress or top; be there and be square!
