Dutch models: Lara Stone

One of the Dutch Models that is internationally moving towards the top is Lara Stone. The daughter of a Dutch mother and a British father is doing well in the modelling industry. Ever since she signed with modelling agency IMG in 2006 she’s really breaking through.

For spring/summer 2010 we saw her in shows of Givenchy, Chanel, Miu Miu, Hermes and Prada. Yet she’s also doing well in photo shoots. The French Vogue payed a tribute to the Dutch model in their February issue of this year and The British Vogue recently named her Girl Of The Year. Stone appears in big photo shoots in major international fashion magazines, as if she was born for the modelling business.

Every big fashion brand wants her in their show or campaign. And although Lara Stone didn’t walk in the Louis Vuitton fashion show, she will feature in the SS2010 ad campaign of the brand. In this position she will follow up Madonna, who was the LV face for 2009.

It seems Stone will be one of the future super models. Will she be the next Kate Moss or Claudia Schiffer? Anyway, we’re very proud she is Dutch. 😀

Max Mara Catwalk Fashion Show Milan FW2018

Supermodels Lara Stone, Doutzen Kroes and Joan Smalls, and Halima Adel as well as (the daughters of ’80s supermodels) Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber followed up each other on the runway as the Max Mara show started off. They sported extravagant and fierce looks, like animal printed fur skirts, tops and oversized coats. And of course it wasn’t long before the camel coat popped up (look 2, Doutzen Kroes). How could they skip that after the enormous success of their FW2017 teddy coat. But for anyone who’s become bored of this winter hit Max Mara did offer some new coat options. Like black leather trenches, duffel coats, raincoats and military coats (paired with a branded hoodie) to beat next year’s winter cold that is hitting Northen Europe right now. The logo tees that popped up all throughout the show weren’t too impressive, but coat-wise Max Mara’s got us excited. This is not the last you’ve seen of that pink fur coat, we tell ya!

Mickey Kümmer and Joyce Bergevoet are the two winners of this year’s (the 33th) Elite Model Look Nederland. After a nerve wrecking finale in which all ten male models and all ten female models walked several rounds (sportswear, casual wear and cocktail styled by Danie Bles) host Lieke van Lexmond announced the two winners. Mickey and Joyce both receive a 3 year modelling contract with Elite Model Agency Worldwide and get to represent our country during the international finale. The next David Gandy or Lara Stone might just have been discovered.

Atelier Versace Haute Couture Fashion Show Paris FW2015

It was a show filled with Dutchies at Atelier Versace. Familiar faces like supermodels Lara Stone, Doutzen Kroes and newcomer Maartje Verhoef. But fresh faces too, like Marjan Jonkman, Susanne Knipper, Julia van Os, Lauren de Graaf en Milan van Eeten. Garlands in their hair patent platform shoes on their feet. Contrast to keep things interesting. Dresses were dreamy as well as powerful, another contradiction. Corset tops, harnesses, sheer chiffon, lace and cutouts left nothing to the imagination. Looks that had sex written all over them, even though Donatella portrayed her softest Versace side. From a distance the pastel colored dresses might have appeared princess-y, up and close the vibe was more party. Frayed edges, asymmetric off shoulder dresses and lots of body parts on display. Shiny sequins and velvet appliqués added to the rich feeling of the collection. Yet while so many designs appeared unfinished we couldn’t help but think Donatella may have been in a rush. Couture as if created in a hurry. That didn’t stop Doutzen from wearing her floor sweeping gown to the Amfar dinner that same evening. Fresh off the runway, how convenient!

Prada Catwalk Fashion Show Milan Womenswear SS2015

When it comes to show backdrops it’s hard to top Chanel and it’s enormous decors. Still, Prada has been creating some impressive ones for it’s shows over the past few year. This week lilac coloured sand-dunes formed the backdrop of Prada’s summer collection. Although summer was not the first word coming to mind when looking at the passing creations. Due the moody vibe of the show, the choice of heavy and rich fabrics (the knitwear, the fur, the leather, the brocades) and the first half of the collection containing mostly dark coats autumn might be more of a seasonal match. Nevertheless designs were impressive in the way only Miuccia Prada can impress. Coats, a lot of them, had obvious topstitching and most clothes with undone frayed ends had a patchwork design to them. With 30 different types of brocades worked into the collection, creating modern pieces of reproduced antique textiles. Something old turned into something new; luxurious yet undone. Elegant earrings, knee socks and oddly shaped blog boots put the Prada S/S2015 look together. A look returning models (after quite a period of absence) Gemma Ward (opening) and Lara Stone (closing) were able to pull off fabulously.
