Versace Haute Couture Paris SS2013

Perhaps Donatella’s neon pink and yellow, gold and black looks breathed MTV Awards more than Oscars or Grammy’s. The dresses might be a little too bright and short for a haute couture show. Yet nowadays anything can be a red carpet look and there’s always some attention seeking celebrity (or their stylists fort hat matter) enthusiastic enough to pull this off. No Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightley or Penelope Cruz perhaps, but we can totally see youngsters (and long term clients; smart thinking Donatella) Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez of Kirstin Stewart sporting one of these upbeat sexy creations. They’ll stand out from the crowd and with the 24-karat detailing still have everyone gushing.

Gareth Pugh Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2013

Gareth Pugh held strictly to his linear graphic style for his ss2013 collection, but this time it seemed softer, even more romantic than before. He even threw in scarlet red to change his palet of black, white and gray. Pugh was inspired by cockfighting, which explained the bloodred, the long hems and extended train-like sleeves. Plus the bloodred make-up. He also put in some flamenco-vibe and Japanese details.

Dries van Noten Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2013

Dries van Noten always follows his own feeling, that makes his collections so real and honest. For ss2013 the Belgian designer mixed everything he loved – mens/womenswear, grunge and spontaneity – in a contemporary collection. He had enough of minimalism and plainness – just at the time nearly every designer is going for minimal elegance. Van Noten took basic pieces and cut them in the plaids and checks of retro street culture, pattern clashing against pattern, sometimes in the same garment. Yet lightness reigned, in both color (muted pastels that held court with earthier tones) and in the constructions of the fabrics.
Like much of the tailoring, the  decorativeness was informed by the designer’s fascination with couture. Skirts were adorned in front with appliqués of rosettes; a sweater got embroidered sleeves; organza ruffles became a wrap.

Bottega Veneta Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2013

Tomas Maier  focused intenso on dresses and the silhouette for the Bottega Veneta ss2013-collection. The dresses had a strong Forties-vibe with slender shapes and without hard shoulders. Each design looked like a treasure found in a vintage shop, but without the dust. These dresses glanced back at the past, but the cuts were modern and the embroideries state-of-the-art.
It was the workmanship that made these dresses so special. Like a  dress collaged from two different flower prints, the bodice folded and pintucked and the seams, all of them, edged with glossy strips of snakeskin lined with matte bronze studs.

Just Cavalli Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2013

Roberto Cavalli took the sea as inspiration for the spring collection of Just Cavalli. The show opened with a white biker with “pearl”-studded sleeves. Short dresses were covered in sequins that looked like mermaid’s skin. And the handkerchief hems of chiffon slipdresses trailed like underwater plants.

The collection was ultimately classic Cavalli: the  jungle prints, the jaguar spots, the digital bougainvillea. Also the python, the slither of lace under the jacket, the blue majolica pattern duplicated in everything from tees to leggings, the distressed denim, and those sexy slipdresses.

Emporio Armani Catwalk Fashion Show SS2013 Milan

For anything light, classy and feminine Giorgio Armani is your go to guy next year. The designer’s spring/summer looks breathed one hundred percent sophistication and softness to the max. Dressed in shades ranging from nude and natural and pastel models looked innocent and ladylike at the same time. Besides a touch of metallic gave the collection a welcome edge. Materials layered on top of each other gave the looks a nice and rich feeling, while the loose fit of the designs added a bit of effortlessness. Some tops and skirts maybe resembled pieces of origami; folded asymmetrical creations never looked this cool. A basket-like braided pastel shaded jacket worn with a graphical printed pair of silky shorts made up for the ultimate show stopping look of this spring collection. It beautifully illustrated mixing unexpected materials and light shades can look surprisingly fresh and natural. We like!

Marc Jacobs Catwalk Fashion Show New York SS2013

Marc Jacobs took fashion into another direction. Again. But he still finds a covered girl sexy, so that opinion didn’t change. The result for his ss2013 collection: suits with below-the-knee skirts worn low on the hips, bare midriffs and long skirts and dresses. Many of the outfits came in wide vertical stripes — black, maroon, taupe — with matching purses and  little shoes with low heels.  The models’ hair was ratted at the crown and pulled into a low ponytail.

The show was literally eyepopping and a play with optical illusions, also 1960 Swinging London revisited. The message for summer 2013 was hard, young and graphic. The geometric elements were everywhere: zigzag op-art patterns or harlequin effects; shoes with checkered heels.
