If you look around at what shoes the cool girls are wearing to a fashion event these days, you’ll notice all shoes are shiny and sparkly. And that’s not just a coincidence. It’s high times for velvet boots and glitter boots. Philip Lim and Dries van Noten already felt it, the high street shops are seeing it now. And why wouldn’t a purple velvet bootie become the shoe of the year? It’s super chic under a pair of patched denim trousers and it’s the highly elegant matched with a slipdress too. Just pick the color of your choice (we say green, purple, gold or silver) and start parading. Sparkling and glossy footwear at Victoria Beckham and Tommy Hilfiger too. Walk into the holiday season with these shiny booties worthy of a true Cinderella moment. Shine bright like a velvet bootay.

The eighties are reviving and so is the disco dress code that flourished at that time. Which basically means we can all get a little crazy and make our outfit a new wave party in itself. Cause with disco glam there is no such thing as too many sequins. The sparklier your dress, the better (same counts for short and tight). Take note from Peter Dundas’ Pucci designs or Hedi Slimane’s creations. Follow the sparkly lead of Blumarine and Loewe. Or go bold with colorful metallics as seen at Versace, Rodarte and Balmain. Statement waist belts and accentuated shoulders, chokers and XL earrings (or just 1 in 1 ear) add to the eighties retro feeling as hair, make-up are your tools to keep things fresh and modern underneath that disco ball. Most important: don’t hold back. “Eat glitter for breakfast and shine all day”

Rocking some shiny, sparkling clothes during daytime, like we’ve done the last couple of years, can be the coolest thing, nothing new about that. Yet designers are taking the disco theme up a notch, presenting the shiniest, sexiest pieces to rock the dance floor (sip some cocktails and lounge about) till early morning. Daring (Tom Ford), revealing (Roberto Cavalli), powerful (Tommy Hilfiger), edgy (Saint Laurent) or elegant (Dries ven Noten), but most of all show stealing and jaw dropping. Making a grande club-entrance won’t be too difficult in these metallic designs, now let’s see about those dance moves…

Catwalktrend FW2010: All that glitters…

After so many season of hearing navy or grey being the new black, this year’s new black comes as a surprise. Gold is the new black for 2010/2011. Though it’s not a very common color for winter, it certainly is a big trend.

It popped up at Balmain, Moschino, Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana and Pucci. At Balmain it matched perfectly with the whole baroque-theme and all the purple.

Moschino combined it with black. Rosella Jardini designed a golden fringe coat and decorated a black one with lots of golden (ear)rings.

Dolce & Gabbana showed golden headphones for your i-Pod and used small golden coins as emrbroideries on their clothes.

Donatella Versace mixed all kinds of metallics in her collection. Even her pants and bags had metallic pieces on them.

So, everyone saying gold looks cheap and trashy should keep their mouths shot for at least half a year. Cause it’s the trend. And even if it’s fake, it’s still fashionable.

For the winter of 2010 all that glitters IS gold.
