Yesterday iNDiViDUALS presented its latest S/S 2017 collection. It’s already the 21st collection of this Dutch womenswear brand. The brand is a platform for fashion creativity, managed by third and fourth year students of Amfi, allowing them to experience the demand of the fashion industry. It provides them with an unmatched experience for future endeavours post-graduation.

The brand is a collective of 27 creative minds changing every season. This creates a continuing narrative, responding to the evolving Zeitgeist. All tasks and responsibilities are covered by the design, management and branding departments. Fusing these three departments makes for the successful formula that is iNDiViDUALS.

iNDiViDUALS is an initiative of AMFI – Amsterdam Fashion Institute and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

Down the escalator the models went. That Louis Vuitton trick never gets old. It made up for a spectacular entrance as the collection did the rest. In a sea of blue/gray-ish shades and a touch of yellow this year’s AMFI students presented their interpretation of Carefree like a Sunday morning. And carefree it was. Slouchy tops, baggy pants, nothing at sight that wasn’t comfortable. Robe-inspired coats with a big hug factor, a quilted skirt and cape seemed to be made from a sleeping bag. The models’ hands were either hidden under enormous sleeves or carried in the pockets. Heavy knitted socks in leather loafers had the same easy going appeal. Oh those Sunday mornings.. when you can just hide in your pajama’s or carelessly walk around in your underwear. Just comfort food and your favorite TV series. No make-up at sight, except of course from the beauty essentials print that popped up on a few pieces. The Individuals by AMFI students know just how important wearability and comfort really are in fashion nowadays. And with a fall collection as cosy as this one, who could resist?

This was the 14th collection of Individuals, a seasonal collection made by young creatives. Individuals is an initiative of Amfi, Amsterdam Fashion Institute and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Every season a new group of 24 creative minds starts with the Individuals program. The inspiration comes from a collective translation of the evolving zeitgeist. The collection of 2013 contains pieces which compose a modern day armor. It’s a contemporary solution for ensuring survival in this world.

Black, burgundy and green are the colors of this new uniform, with silver and sparkle as a glamorous but also hi tech touch. The designers played with contrasts: soft and hard fabrics, matte and shiny, loose and fitted, luxurious and sober. A perfect wardrobe to survive in the city.
